The SIGPRO Softy 4×10 is a good match for a permanent indoor simulator that has room for a wide stance area and will see enough practice to justify a replaceable hitting strip.

The real purchase decision is not whether ten feet of mat looks impressive.

It is whether you need that width, can live with its 2.5-inch height, and value replacing the worn strike area without buying another full mat.

I would consider it for a shared bay where golfers may stand on either side of a centered strip.

For one right-handed golfer in a narrow room, the smaller 4×7 version may be a more sensible use of money and floor space.

The Layout Is the Main Selling Point

The Softy 4×10 product information lists the complete mat at four feet deep, ten feet wide, and 2.5 inches high.

It weighs about 31 pounds.

The replaceable Softy hitting strip is 28 by 12 inches and sits near the center of the layout, giving stance space to each side.

That arrangement is useful when both right- and left-handed players use the same simulator.

You can keep one ball location for an overhead launch monitor and let players switch sides.

It does not guarantee a seamless experience with a side-mounted launch monitor, which may still have to move when handedness changes.

Check the monitor’s hitting zone against the strip, not simply against the mat’s outside dimensions.

The four-foot depth also affects ball-to-screen distance.

Some golfers want the ball near the front of the stance mat; others need it farther back to satisfy a launch monitor or screen-safety requirement.

The center of the Softy strip is listed about two feet from the front edge.

I would mark that ball position on the floor before ordering and confirm that there is enough room for the screen to move and for a full driver swing.

Check Both Stances on the Floor

Three layout checks deserve a quick floor mockup:

  • Test both handed stances without letting a wall or enclosure side crowd the golfer.
  • Check that the ball spot sits inside the launch monitor’s verified hitting zone.
  • Measure driver clearance from the top of the mat for the tallest player.

A wide mat is useful only when the surrounding room lets golfers use the width.

If one side is blocked by a wall, the extra turf may buy very little.

The Replaceable Strip Changes Ownership Cost

The Softy is built around a separate hitting insert rather than one continuous strike surface.

Its layered design uses Teeline turf, a flexible polyurethane layer, and foam with compression slots.

The intended effect is to let the club move through a fat shot with less abrupt resistance.

That is the manufacturer’s design explanation, not a measured guarantee that it prevents pain or injury.

The practical benefit is easier to verify: when the strike area wears, you can replace the insert and keep the surrounding stance platform.

If you hit thousands of balls from one spot, that matters.

With a one-piece mat, the worn section may force replacement of much more usable turf.

Real Tees Change Practice Options

The strip also accepts a real tee.

You can set tee height for the club you are using instead of relying only on fixed rubber tee positions.

That is useful for driver practice and for a household where golfers prefer different tee heights.

It does not mean the mat will behave exactly like natural turf on every fat strike.

Artificial surfaces always change how the club interacts with the ground.

Height and Floor Edges Need Planning

Two and a half inches is substantial in a room where the ceiling is already tight.

Measure driver swing clearance from the top of the mat, not from the concrete floor.

If the tallest golfer is close to a ceiling fixture, the mat can be the difference between a safe swing and a shortened one.

The height also creates a step at the mat’s edge.

In a dedicated room, you may want surrounding flooring or a transition that does not trip people and does not leave balls rolling into an awkward gap.

A floor-standing or ball-side launch monitor may need to be raised to the hitting-surface level according to its own setup instructions.

Leaving it on bare concrete beside a thick mat can change the alignment of its cameras or radar.

Keep the Softy Indoors

The manufacturer says this Softy mat is intended for indoor use and storage.

If your setup lives outdoors or in a garage that is open to rain, this is a point to take seriously.

The SIGPRO 3D 5×5 has a different construction and is marketed for high-volume range use, but it gives up the Softy’s replaceable strike insert.

Thickness can add cushioning, yet it also raises the golfer and changes the floor transition.

I would never choose on thickness alone without checking the actual swing and ball position.

Measure ceiling clearance and launch-monitor height from the top of the finished mat.

Price, Warranty, and Alternatives

Shop Indoor Golf showed a regular Softy 4×10 price of $1,199.99 on September 16, 2026, with a lower promotional price also appearing on the product page.

Replacement inserts are an additional future cost, but they can be cheaper than replacing an entire wide mat.

The maker’s current limited warranty lists one year for mats and hitting strips, subject to its purchase and use conditions.

Ordinary wear is a different issue from a manufacturing defect, so read the terms before assuming every worn strip is covered.

A Narrower Softy May Be Enough

The 4×7 Softy is the closer option when one handedness dominates and you want the same replaceable strike concept in a smaller footprint.

The SIGPRO 3D 5×5 costs less and uses a full woven hitting surface with four tee insert locations.

It is a better comparison if you want a simple range-style mat rather than a wide modular platform.

I would buy the Softy 4×10 for a shared, permanent indoor bay where the centered strip and replacement path will actually be used.

I would not pay for the extra width just to cover bare floor.

Put the ball location, launch monitor, golfer, and ceiling on a room plan first.

A mat feels like a small component until its height or position forces you to redo the whole setup.
